Subject: KFY: BIBLE: Dora Family Bible - Bracken Co
All that remains of this bible is four pages we found after my Grandmothers
death.
The bible first belonged to Ferdinand Dora and his wife Nancy Ann Beauchamp
who were both from Somerset, Maryland and came to Kentucky about 1797. Second
owners their son Beauchamp M. Dora and his wife Eleanor (Nellie) Heaverin.
Third owners their son John F. Dora and Lucie M. Smith. Not all Births,
Deaths and marriages have locations, if not noted it occured in Bracken co.
Kentucky. I will list these if known to the right in brackets if I added the
data I have found and occured somewhere besides Bracken co. Kentucky.

MARRIAGE: Mr J.R. Llewellynn and Miss Matilda Jones were married last
Sunday morning at the home of Prof Dicerson in Livingston by the REv T.D.
Mullins
I have sold the SIGNAL office subscription list, accounts &c., to Mr S.C.
Franklin, he in turn selling it to Mr Edgar S. Albright, who will continue
its publication at the old stand. With thanks to those who stood by me in
the work and soft words for my enemies, I am yours sincerely, JAMES MARET
Eugene Vowels who was a small boy when his father' family moved from this
place to Middlesboro, when the boom opened at that place, has been given
charge as editor and manager of the Middlesboro News and the Pinnacle
Printery. Mr Vowels has worked his way from "devil" to the managership of
as fine a plant as can be found in Eastern Kentucky. By his untiring
industry, in connection with his intelligence he has reached this position.
Mt Vernon sends greeting to her much appreciated son. He will be heard
from farther up the ladder at no distant date
Thurman Ferguson of Langford Stantion and Prof F.S. Phillips of Wildie, while
down at Frankfort on their free passes, got too much tanglefoot and sought the
pleasures of that notorious dive known as "Craw". Ferguson became disorderly
and had to be arrested when a 45 Colts pistol a dozen or so cartiridges and a
pair of brass knucks were found on him. He was find $50 and 30 days
imprisonment, with the working statutes applied, and now he is beating up rock
for the State. Prof Phillips while on the witness stand testified how he come
to Frankfort; that his ticket was furnished him and if the court would let him
ho he would leave the city at onece. Ferguson was taken to the work house.
Charley Provence of London was arrested in a disreputable house for shooting
at one of the women therein. Otho Paul, of Lincoln county another member of
the free pass party, was locked up for being drunk and disorderly. The local
leaders sent runners all over this county with instrucktions to tell t he
people that Gov Bradley had cordered them to Frankfort. But what does Bradley
say? Before the State Board of Commissioners, he says that any man that says
he ordered any citizen or soldier to Frankfort is a liar. Now what do you say
as to who told the truth?

Miss Birda Hilton who is at present location at Lancaster spent Saturday
and Sunday with her parents at this place
Alex Tyree was down Monday from Pittsburg to make arrangements to move his
family to that place
Bro Hendrickson pastor of the Baptist church has rented one of Tilman
Gilpins houses and located here
Mrs J.T. Cherry visited Mrs J.W. Brwon at Mt Vernon Tuesday and Wednesday
D.R. Totten is hustling early and late, since the election, selling fine
seed potatoes, wheat and corn for Gunson Brown & Co.

this the Eight district will get 87. Districkt Supervisor John Bright of
Stanford, will hae plenty to do but he will select strictly good men to

GIVEN LIFE SENTENCE
Greensburg, Ky Nov 28...Albert Elmore has been convicted of murder and his
punishment fixed at imprisonment for life. Elmore's borther and Wesley
Durrett had a few words over an account of 80 cents and Elmore ran out with
a pistol and shot Durrett
FATAL DIFFICULTY OVER A WOMAN
Morehead, Ky Nov 26...At a country dance on Christy creek four miles east
of her at an early hour Friday mornign in a difficulty over a woman, App
Perry shot Harris Carroll through the heart killing him instantly. Perry
fled, but was captured and lodged in jail. he figured in the Rowan county
war, during which Craig Tolliver was killed. There is talk of a mob taking
Perry out, and a strong guard was around the jail Friday night.
CONVICT GIVEN DAMAGES
Stanford, Nov 26... James hacker a life prisoner form Harlan county has
been awarded $200 damages against a railroad. While he was being borught
here for safe keeping he was injured in a wreck at Rowland. He asked for
$10,000

Miss Minnie Jones gave a party to quite a number of friends Tuesday evening
in honor of Miss Ada Thompson of East Bernstadt
Captain G.A. parker of Crab Orchard Tenn, who is grade foreman on the
Tennessee Central Railroad was here a few days last week
The post office at Stanford was broken into Tuesday night and robbed of
$170 cash and $105 in stamps. No clew as to the guilty parties
The Collegiate Institute has begun a publication called the "news Butch".
Miss Anna Thompson is editor, with Burdette Houk as associate editor
DEATH: Mrs Joseph O'Donnell daughte rof fJudge W.P. Raines of Livingston
died at Somerset of dropsy and heart disease. She was buried at Stanford
Sunday morning
W.T. Brooks was appointed adminstrator of his brother's estate and gave
bond with G.W. Brooks as surety. A.W. Stewart and W.H. Jones were
appointed as appraisers

witness the closing exercises of Miss Fannie McFerron's school at Pine Hill
Mr Frank Jones of Scaffold Cane brought his sister Miss Lucy here Wednesday
where she took the train for her home in Mitchelsburg. Miss Lucy has been
attending the school taught by Mrs Jones who is a bright and charming woman
All the churches have agreed to have a union Christmas tree at the Court
House Monday evening 25th Misses Mary Cox, Georgie McFerron, Rosa Gentry
and Mr W.J. Sparks have charge of the music. Rev Ewers will open the
exercises with prayer and Bro Carmical will close
Mr J.L. Joplin has been on the sick list this week
Dr J.M. Williams is at home from the Phillippine Islands looking hail and
hearty
Rev Ewers, Judges Colyer and Williams will speak at Wildie Tuesday night in
behalf of the Collegiate Institute
Mr E.B. Smith editor of the Kentucky Colonel who is one of the brightest
editorial writers this side of Louisville was in Mt Vernon last Saturday
Dr E.J. Brown who was born and raised in Rockcastle and who built up an
excellent practice before leaving for Stanford was called in consultation
with Dr Pennington
Clarence Williams a negro who murdered Josie Tillman his sweetheart was
legally hanged at Paris. He expressed a desire to hang at an early hour so
he could "eat breakfast in hell".
